Gumamela Earrings

The Story

Once upon a time, the three most beautiful flowers in the garden – the sampaguita, rose, and Gumamela – expected the arrival of the garden fairy, who would bless them with halimuyak, a pleasant scent.

On the night before the fairy’s arrival, the sampaguita went to sleep first, hoping to rise early. The rose was full of anticipation and fell asleep a little later. The gumamela stayed awake late into the night.

The next morning the sampaguita woke first and was blessed with fragrance by the fairy. The rose woke up late but just made it in time. The Gumamela overslept and thus wasn’t blessed with scent.

From that day on, the sampaguita and rose became the most sweet-smelling flowers, while the beautiful Gumamela remains scentless.

I’ve wanted to make the gumamela since I first learned to French bead in 2022, but it intimidated me so I put it off for two years! I learned two new techniques for this design – one to achieve the shape of the petals, and another to make the stamen, which was incredibly tricky. But I am so happy with how it turned out, and I hope you are, too!

Size: Drops 4 cm.

Materials: Glass seed beads, copper wire, gold-tone stainless steel earring posts and backing. Stainless steel findings make these safe for sensitive ears.
