The Story:
Our ancestors believed that falling stars were the earthly form of the bird god of illness and pestilence, Bulalakaw. Whenever a star would “fall”, it was an omen that sickness and bad fortune would befall the community.
The ancient shamans, or babaylans, performed rituals and sacrifices to Bulalakaw during his visit to earth. These were usually animal sacrifices, but sometimes human flesh was also offered to satiate this deity.
Artist Notes: I hope this little tidbit didn’t frighten you off these earrings though! The Shooting Stars feature dramatic fringes made of silver and gold glass beads that look absolutely lovely when they sway and shimmer in the light.
Size: Drops 12 cm.
Materials: Glass seed beads, waxed thread, brass ring, gold-tone stainless steel posts and backs. Stainless steel findings make these safe for sensitive ears.
Preorder. All pieces are made by hand, please allow up to 2 to 4 weeks for production for preorder items.
