The Story:
Starlight abounds in these shimmery earrings inspired by another Filipino origin myth about the sun and moon, and why we have the day and night:
Once the sun, Araw, and the moon, Buwan, each had large families of stars. Buwan was afraid her children could not survive Araw’s heat, and so (bizarrely) she convinced him that they should both destroy their stars. Araw devoured his, but Buwan hid her stars behind the clouds. Araw was angered by this deception and has since been chasing Buwan to exact his revenge. It is said that eclipses happen when Araw is close enough to Buwan to bite her. At dawn Buwan hides her stars until her eldest daughter, Tala, the evening star, tells her mother the sun is far away and it is safe to come out.
